Diving Holidays in Gozo, Malta

Gozo (and the small neighbouring Comino island) boast approximately 50 dive sites accessible by boat and from the shore. The island's clear waters and stable conditions cater to novice divers. At the same time, its intriguing arches, tunnels, and caves provide a captivating alternative for experienced divers seeking a departure from traditional coral reef dives. Many of Gozo's dive sites are conveniently located within a 5 to 20-minute drive or boat ride. Boats are commonly utilized to reach sites beneath cliff drop-offs, explore local wrecks, and access locations on Comino Island.

THE BLUE HOLE - Shaped by centuries of wind and wave erosion, The Blue Hole features a natural rock formation that serves as a sheltered entry point for various dives. The site includes a massive archway starting at 8 meters with a flat, almost square top adorned with golden cup coral. Occasionally inhabited by seahorses, this cave awaits exploration at the hole's bottom.

CATHEDRAL CAVE - Best explored by boat, Cathedral Cave's shallows house damselfish, with occasional sightings of well-camouflaged seahorses among spiky algae. The highlight of this dive is the cave itself, accessible just 5 meters below the surface, leading to a vast domed vault where divers can surface.

ZURZIEP REEF - An afternoon boat dive with west-facing light is optimal for exploring Zurziep Reef. This unfished area teems with shoals of bream, amberjacks, parrotfish, wrasse, damselfish, and sand smelt. Shallow caves in the region host cardinalfish and various anemone species.

XLENDI BAY TUNNEL - Situated near St. Andrew's Divers, Xlendi Bay Tunnel is a popular night dive and an easy venture into shallow waters, making it suitable for less experienced divers. The cave's vibrant walls showcase golden zoanthids, red starfish, sponges, green and purple algae, and numerous bristle worms. Pink flabellina and Hervia are commonly sighted, and during winter, a small school of juvenile barracuda may seek shelter at the cave entrance.
